What Is a Chemical Indicator?

Chemical indicators are strips or cards that change color when exposed to sterilization parameters (temperature, time, presence of steam/gas). Unlike biological indicators, they give an instant result and serve as the first sign that a sterilization process has occurred on a given package or load.

Process Variety

Separate, process-specific chemical indicators are available for steam, ethylene oxide, hydrogen peroxide, formaldehyde, and dry heat sterilization.

Where It's Used

Placed inside or on each sterilization package, providing a quick visual check that sterilization has actually been applied when the package is opened.
